Submitted by Roma Scougal: Earthquakes can appear to be mysterious forces that come out of nowhere. However, earthquakes in southcentral Alaska are much more clearly understood if they are related to their sources. Peter J. Haeussler, Research Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, will review the various fault zones that produce earthquakes in southcentral Alaska, and recent developments in understanding their history and effects, including the recent M7 Anchorage earthquake.
