Moose caused fatality in Meadow Lakes

On 2/22/2019 at approximately 3:57 a.m., AST received a report of a single vehicle collision involving a moose near the intersection of Pittman Rd. and Greensward Dr. in Wasilla. A single occupant was reported to be inside the vehicle and not moving. AST and EMS responded to the scene and found the driver did not have any signs of life.

Investigation revealed a 2004 Nissan sedan was driving westbound on Pittman Rd. near Greensward Dr. when a moose entered into the roadway and was struck. The collision with the moose caused major damage to the vehicle. The driver sustained heavy trauma and was pronounced dead on scene. Efforts are underway to positively identify the deceased and to notify the appropriate next of kin. The body has been transported to the SME’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and positive identification.
