Troopers seek escapee

Update: On 4/22/2019 at approximately 10:02 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report regarding a person breaking into a cabin in the Flat Lake area. The complainant stated that at approximately 7 p.m. he made contact with an unknown man and took his photo. The complainant was able to provide the photo to AST. Troopers were able to identify the unknown man as Brian Church, the escapee from Point Mackenzie Correctional Farm. On 4/23/2019 at approximately 9 a.m., AST responded to the cabin on Northwest side of Flat Lake with SERT assets. Church was no longer at the cabin but SERT found evidence to suggest that Church was on foot apparently heading south. SERT members are still in the area attempting to locate him. If anyone has any information regarding Church, call troopers immediately by dialing 9-1-1. Please do not approach Church on your own as he may be dangerous.

Original Release: On 4/12/19 at approximately 3:12 a.m., Alaska State Troopers were notified of an escape from Alaska Department of Corrections – Point Mackenzie Correctional Farm, located at 13690 S. Guernsey Road in Wasilla. DOC personnel reported inmate Brian E. Church, age 59, walked away from the minimum-security facility between 2200 hours on 4/11/19 and 0200 hours on 4/12/19. Church was last known to be wearing street clothing to include jeans and a shirt. Church is described as a white male, 6’1” and approximately 205lbs, with brown/partially grey hair and brown eyes. AST do not believe Church has means of transportation or contacts within the area. An arrest warrant for Escape 2nd degree is pending. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious persons or circumstance in the areas of Point Mackenzie and Knik Goose Bay Roads to MATCOM Public Safety Dispatch at (907) 352-5401.
