Troopers arrest man on multiple charges

On 10/29/2018 at 10:43 p.m., Alaska State Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a red Subaru Forester near the Parks Hwy and Pittman Road after dispatch aired a locate of a stolen vehicle spotted in the area a few hours prior that matched the description.

The vehicle failed to yield to lights and sirens and drove recklessly for approximately 10 minutes along the Parks Hwy, on side roads and ending up fleeing on foot near the intersection of Sam Snead Loop and Arnold Palmer Street. Two passengers exited the vehicle just prior to the driver exiting the vehicle.

Responding units began a foot track through the woods following footprints in the snow. Wasilla PD was able to assist in the search with multiple units including the use of WPD K-9 Echo. The track eventually led across the Parks Hwy near a pizza delivery business on McCallister Drive.

WPD advised a vehicle began to drive off in the area of the K-9 track. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the marked pizza delivery vehicle as it sped off on the Parks Hwy northbound. The vehicle drove recklessly and eventually wrecked into the ditch on Scatter’s Way.

The driver again fled on foot. Troopers with the assistance of WPD K-9 Echo took the suspect in custody a short distance from the location of the vehicle.

The suspect was identified as Eric Thomas, age 28 of Anchorage, who was found to have an outstanding $20,000 warrant out of Anchorage on a probation violation with an original charge of Vehicle Theft.

Additionally a firearm was found near the driver seat of the stolen Subaru.

Thomas was transported to Mat Su Pretrial and remanded on the charges of Vehicle Theft 1st/ Vehicle Theft By Receiving/ Eluding X 2/ MIW 3/ Reckless Endangerment X 2/ Arrest Warrant.
