Big Lake has been identified as an eligible community under the State of Alaska Community Development Block Grant program. This program is funded by Federal HUD dollars. Under this program, Big Lake may be eligible for up to $850,000 in grant money. The CDBG Program may be used to fund projects in three categories: Community Development, Planning, and Special Economic Development.

The list of eligible projects is extensive and too long to list here, however, it does include things like Health Care Clinics, Daycare Centers, Homeless Shelters, Local Service Roads, Docks, Boardwalks, Fire Protection Facilities & Equipment, Capital Improvement Plans, Plan Updates and many more. A complete list of eligible and ineligible projects/activities can be found in Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.

This is a good opportunity for our community.
