The linked site makes some good arguments for the proposal.

I want to hear more from the opposition. There is an article on this site that I read that says the borough is going to make Big Lake a townsite (whatever that is) with plumbing and things that a city has anyway. And what if dirty Houston tries to annex us? I wouldn't put it past them, their fire department is in an outhouse.

We're already taking a risk by allowing anonymous comments (almost no place on the internet allows that any more), but you can use an image host and link it. Or contact us for approval.

Let's keep this on the topic.

Folks, I think Big Lake is going to be a city wether we like it or not. At least we don't have the railroad running through the middle of town, and maybe we need to nip this in the bud. Look at KGB, it's a nightmare. Or wasilla *shuders* dont let Big Lake be them.

I'm for it if we could run some of the human trash out of town. Or at least encourage them to move somewhere else.

I'm for it, and one way we can fund it is with a tax on cigs.

I grew up in Big Lake, went in the service, came back. I love living here. I think it's time we had some organization. I've been to the cc and coc meetings, and still there's a disconnect here.

We need a flea market/swap meet, and a farmers and artists market. What we need is more stuff going on here.

I think it's crazy that Houston is considered a city. There really isn't a city anywhere, it's just scattered all over everywhere. Big Lake however, has a city central. I wondered for a long time what that sign that says "Welcome to Big Lake, Unincorporated" meant. Then I found that it means we aren't a city. So strange, imo. I am totally for Big Lake becoming an official city.

I'm for it also. We already have a tax base, might as well keep that money local. As much of it as we can anyway. Some excellent points were made in this discussion. Do we NEED another layer of government, or do we NEED another layer of government to keep things from becoming like Wasilla or Houston? Big Lake has a blossoming "Downtown", let's keep it that way.

OK so no new taxes, a surplus for the city even, control over our roads and parks and keep out a highway running through the middle of town? I looked at the docs, there is no proposal for a fleet of revenoors. I for one would like to have our voice carry more weight, and if we were a city we could carry that weight. This proposal is for, from what I read, a very minimal government.

If someone has some opposing points I'd listen.
