Multiple products containing organic garlic powder recalled for possible contamination with Salmonella

Food and DrinkFrontier Co-op has issued a recall for several of its products because the products contain garlic powder that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain beginning 12-72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4-7 days. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis. People exhibiting any of these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider.

The recalled products were sold under the company’s Frontier and Simply Organic brands and may be identified by a four-digit lot code positioned at various locations on the product packaging. On foil bulk packages, the code is found on the front label directly above the UPC code. On bottled items, the code is on the bottom of the bottle.

On seasoning mixes, the code is embossed on the right side of the packet.
