Governor Walker Proclaims November 2 - 8 as Apprenticeship Week

Alaska BusinessJUNEAU: Governor Walker has proclaimed November 2-8, 2015 as Apprenticeship Week in Alaska in recognition of the value apprentice training provides as a pathway to high-skilled, high paying jobs where Alaskans can earn and learn while obtaining occupational licenses and college credit while working. Registered apprenticeship programs directly contribute to higher rates of Alaska hire and lower rates of unemployment.

This proclamation was designed to recognize employers, union and non-union apprenticeship sponsors, community partners and the federal government for their collaboration in developing Alaska’s workforce using Registered Apprenticeships.

“Apprenticeship training is available in over 180 technical occupations in Alaska. Apprentices are employed in construction, oil and gas, mining, transportation, healthcare and other industries. We are working to expand registered apprenticeship opportunities for all Alaskans and look forward to seeing you out on job sites,” said Commissioner Heidi Drygas.
