Gov. Proclaims Public Works Week

AnnouncementsWHEREAS, public works infrastructure, facilities, and services are of vital importance to sustainable communities and the health, safety, and well-being of the people of Alaska; and

WHEREAS, transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste systems, public buildings, and other essential structures and facilities could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, engineers, managers, and employees from state and local governments and the private sector, who are responsible for and must plan, design, build, operate, and maintain this important infrastructure to serve our citizens; and


WHEREAS, citizens, civic leaders, and public policy makers should gain knowledge about public works to make informed decisions about public works programs in their respective communities; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the 56th annual commemoration of National Public Works Week, sponsored by the American Public Works Association; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, Bill Walker, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim May 15-21, 2016 as:

Public Works Week

in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees and to recognize the substantial contributions they have made to our health, safety, and quality of life.
