Report on The Big Lake Roundabout Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Community Here are some images and a brief report on the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Big Lake Roundabout.

The weather was cool, overcast, and mostly dry. A respectable crowd of reporters, political representatives, and people that worked on the project as well as residents attended. Unfortunately, the audio for the event was not operational, so the videos are of no use.

Our Representative Dan Mayfield added to the comments of the previous 2 speakers at the event, and went into some detail about the history of the project and what it means to Big Lake. He noted that we almost had a Wasilla-style highway cutting right through Big Lake, with semi trucks passing either way every 2 minutes. Instead, Big Lake is fast becoming a community with a downtown and is working towards being a safe place for walkers, bicyclists, and others.

Then came the ribbon cutting ceremony, and like with the commissioning of a new ship, not everything went as planned. It took three tries, but as they say, the Third Times the Charm. Either it was a tough piece of surveyors ribbon, or dull but very large scissors.

I like it, now can we get some sinage to keep motorized vehicles off the bike path, Rep. Mayfield?

Seconded. And there will always be those resistant to change, but change can be progress. Don't be left behind.

Thanks to everyone involved in this great project. Big Lake is better because of your work, from the flaggers to the finishers.

The giant ceremonial scissors were shiny but very dull. Someone offered to sharpen them.

Someone said that the scissors were dull from all the budget cutting. That got a laugh.

That hump would be a great place for a welcome to Big Lake sign.

So, after months of this project causing traffic delays, a bunch of bureaucrats block off the intersection so they can take turns standing in the middle of the road yammering and patting themselves and each other on the back and getting photographed. Brilliant. If I had been stopped waiting for these fools, I would have been blowing my horn non-stop. This was a 100% unnecessary road closure.

No traffic was interrupted, they were off to one side. Look at the pics, traffic is flowing.

Why do some people have to search for any slight negativity in everything? In other words, find the good in something, and yourself.
