Fatal crash closes Parks Highway in Houston

Police BlotterUPDATE: On 10/4/17 at 3:41 pm, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a Motor Vehicle Collision near Milepost 53 of the Parks Highway in Houston.

Investigation revealed Mark A. Meyer, 57 of Palmer was operating his 2016 gray Nissan Rogue, and had three juvenile passengers in the vehicle, southbound and Kole Deneven, 20 of Wasilla, was operating a 2016 white Dodge pick-up truck, and had one adult passenger, northbound. Investigation revealed Deneven crossed left of center into the southbound lane of travel. Meyer attempted to avoid colliding with the oncoming vehicle as Deneven attempted to correct. The two vehicles subsequently collided.

Due to the damage to Meyer’s vehicle, a juvenile male in his vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was ejected from the vehicle. The deceased has been transported to the SME's office in Anchorage for autopsy. Multiple people were transported to area hospitals with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Investigation is ongoing.

On 10/4/2017 at approximately 3:42 pm, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a two vehicle collision near mile 53 of the Parks Highway (near the intersection of Hawk). One person is deceased and at least one other person is believed to be seriously injured. The highway is currently shut down for an undetermined amount of time while first responders are on scene.
