Big Lake Pedestrian Improvements Survey

Community Submitted by Taryn Oleson, Planner & Public Involvement Coordinator

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is conducting a study to identify and plan for pedestrian and other non-motorized user safety on Big Lake Road.

Please take the 10-minute survey on the Draft Recommendations for improving pedestrian and non-motorized user safety. The survey questions reflect the Draft Recommendations and intends to collect feedback from Big Lake Road users and Big Lake residents.

Click this image to take the survey.

If you care about Big Lake, either as a motorized or non-motorized user, please take the survey and make your voice heard. It only takes a few minutes and you can comment!

Thank you Big Lake Times for this. You are a truly fine citizen of our community.

Many people shy away from anything that seems like progress. They want things to stay the same or even revert to "the Good Old Days". "Shrug, It's Big Lake."

Well, Big Lake has been progressing since the old timer Prospector homesteaded here almost a hundred years ago. And so it shall continue. There will always be a few holdouts but they will stay home on voting day.

Adapt, or Perish.

Responsible motor users stay off the paved paths.

If you want to live in a city, move to the city. Big Lake is a motorized vehicle friendly location, since when is it OK for surveys to be so biased for Pedestrians. Motorized vehicles use their established trails everyday. Pedestrians use the trails a month out of the year, and we give them priority!?! We need to cater to the motorized vehicles FIRST, and then you will see more support for the Pedestrians desires. The ridiculous bike path from Houston to Wasilla is a tragedy, and this will be too. We need to nip this in rear right now, and make it known loud and clear that this is not Wasilla, this is BIG LAKE. We are proud of our Big Lakers, including us pedestrians that like the feel of dirt under our shoes instead of pavement! I walk to the PO all the time, and I like the fact that Big Lake has never been hostile toward motorized vehicle travel!

It's real simple: Motorized vehicles are prohibited from the paved bike path by law. If you want to drive your 4-wheeler through the middle of town move to Bethel.

This is exactly my point, we don't need more paved pathways. We need less. And to expound the point made by the other guy, these pathways are not free! Who do you think is going to pay for these trails? I already pay 6K in taxes on my property for a crappy 1 acre lot that has planes flying overhead all the time. The only people who want these pathways, are those that like cities, and want to bring the city life to their town. This is Big Lake NOT BETHEL, and if you want to live in BETHEL then you move there! Stop ruining our towns to cater to a minority.,

I own property and pay taxes, so I'm going to ride my wheeler, which cost more than your car, whereever and whenever I want. It's my right.

And why does my comment have to be approved, probably by lib mods amirite?
