Magnitude 8.2 quake shakes Alaska, Tsunami warning in effect

ScienceA magnitude 8.2 quake shook southern Alaska at approx. 12:31 a.m. There is a Tsunami warning in effect for Alaska and the west coast. Depth was shallow, approximately 6.5 miles (10 km). The epicenter was 56.058°N 149.097°W, 181 mi southeast of Kodiak. We will post updates when they become available.

Update: Downgraded to M 7.9.

Update: Tsunami warning lifted.
