Jury returns verdict in Houston robbery/assault

Approximately two weeks after the initial investigation, three suspects were positively identified as Shawn Nagl, 34 of Wasilla, Robert Jacobson, 33 of Wasilla, and Brandi Lefferson, 39 of Wasilla; all three were identified through surveillance photos on the property. Jacobson and Lefferson took plea deals. During the week of January 29Th of 2017, Shawn Nagl took his case to trial. After a short deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict for Nagl on all counts as follows: Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Theft in the Second Degree, two counts of Burglary in the Second Degree, three counts of Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, attempted Vehicle Theft in the First Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree. Nagl will be sentenced on a later date.

Original incident:

On July 4, 2016 at about 6:39 p,m,, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on Winter Haven Drive in Houston for an assault and an attempted theft from a residence. Investigation revealed the home owner returned home to find two male suspects attempting to steal an ATV. As they fled the property, the suspects drove over the home owner, causing serious injuries. After viewing photos the home owner took on his phone, the two males were tentatively identified. Further investigation revealed at least $20,000 worth of property had been taken that day while the home owner was out of town. Investigation continues.
