Mat-Su Borough Plans for Southwest Proposed Townsites

Big Lake CityMAT-SU—The Mat-Su Borough has assembled a consulting team to develop a vision for the southwestern portion of the Borough reflecting the potential of a Knik Arm Crossing (KAC) bridge. This team has developed a market-driven vision for the year 2060, which forecasts denser populations than might otherwise exist if a bridge were not constructed. This is not a binding or planned change to current Borough policy, but instead a “what if " scenario to assist policy makers in understanding the potential, market-driven outcomes of a bridge.

The denser population would be located in six “town sites” which would have water and sewer systems similar to those in Palmer and Wasilla. The town sites would feature new housing suitable for a workforce employed at future Point Mackenzie businesses, in Anchorage, and throughout the Mat-Su Borough.
