Tribute to Big Lake Resident Rod Smith

ObituariesRod was a true Alaskan, homesteading out on Burma Road. He had raised some prized hounds, was an avid gardener, and had a colourful, cheerful and interesting life. He reminded me of Roy Underhill with a fashion consultant from Willie Nelson.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday 23 January at 2 pm at the Big Lake Family Restaurant.

You will be missed.

“I feel as if I’ve just come home,” she told her mother the first day she stepped foot in Talkeetna. That feeling stayed with her for 50 years, until her death last week at home in that tight-knit Alaska community about 115 miles north of Anchorage."
