Big Lake man facing theft charges

Police BlotterOn 11/15/2017 at approximately 11:09 a.m., an employee of Ficklin Construction contacted the Alaska State Troopers to report a theft. Investigation revealed Johnny Raymond Hanifen, age 40 of Big Lake who was a former employee of Ficklin Construction had been making fraudulent charges on the business’ account. Charges of Theft II and Fraudulent Use of an Access Device X 32 are being forwarded to the Palmer District Attorney’s Office.

Big Lake man charged with DUI

Police BlotterOn 11/7/2017 at approximately 10:04 pm, AST conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota SUV for an equipment violation near Big Lake Road and Meadowood Drive. The driver was identified as Joshua L. Ogle, 42 YOA of Big Lake. An open container of alcohol was observed inside of the vehicle. An investigation revealed Joshua was impaired by alcohol. Joshua was arrested for DUI and transported to Matsu Pretrial in Palmer. Bail O/R.

Troopers say man found dead in Houston a homicide, seeks public help

Police BlotterUPDATE: The deceased is identified as Patrick McMullen, 32 of Wasilla. Next of kin has been notified. The death is believed to be a homicide. McMullen’s vehicle was found in a pullout at milepost 59 of the Parks Hwy in Houston. McMullen was found deceased on an ATV trail a short distance away. Anyone who was traversing that section of the Parks Hwy on the night of Wednesday Nov. 1, 2017 after 9 p.m. that may have seen any vehicles at the pull out or anything suspicious in the area, please contact Troopers in Palmer at 352-5401 and reference case number AK17078337.

On 11/02/2017 at approximately 8:47 a.m., AST was notified of an unresponsive person in the ditch near milepost 59 of the Parks Hwy in Houston. Palmer AST responded and confirmed the man was deceased. Palmer GIU responded to assist. The deceased has been identified however next of kin has not been notified. Efforts to notify next of kin are underway. The SME’s office is conducting an autopsy. Investigation continues.

Man found deceased in Houston

Police BlotterOn 11/02/2017 at approximately 8:47 a.m., AST was notified of an unresponsive person in the ditch near milepost 59 of the Parks Hwy in Houston. Palmer AST responded and confirmed the man was deceased. Palmer GIU responded to assist. The deceased has been identified however next of kin has not been notified. Efforts to notify next of kin are underway. The SME’s office is conducting an autopsy. Investigation continues.

Big Lake woman uninjured in crash

Police BlotterOn 11/01/17 at 7:16 p.m., AST responded to mile 49 of the Parks Highway in Wasilla for a 2 vehicle collision. Michael Roehl, age 17 of Wasilla, was driving a white 2001 Ford pick-up north bound and collided with a black 2007 Dodge pick-up driven by Nicole Musick, age 32 of Big Lake. No injuries were reported and the Dodge was towed from the scene. Foggy weather and icy road conditions were a factor.

Trespass- Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 10-31-17 at approximately 1:30 p.m., AST responded to a residence on Halston Avenue in Big Lake for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed that a female was trespassing on the property and fled prior to AST's arrival. Charges of Trespass will be forwarded to the Palmer DAO on the female.

Big Lake man arrested, knocks down powerlines

Police BlotterOn 10/31/2017, approximately 1:10 a.m., Alaska State Troopers investigated a single vehicle collision near the intersection of S Southpark Drive and Big Lake Road, Big Lake.

Investigation revealed 33 year old Ray K. Allen of Big Lake was intoxicated when he lost control of the purple 1995 Ford pick-up truck he was operating northbound on S Southpark Drive. The truck collided with a utility pole, causing downed power lines and approximately $3000 damage to the utility equipment.

Allen, who does not have a valid driver's license, then left the scene without reporting it and was later contacted at his residence where he was arrested without incident and remanded to MSPT where he was to be released on his own recognizance after being sober.

Big Lake man arrested on warrant

Police BlotterOn 10/30/17, at 6:05 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence in Big Lake for a reported disturbance. On scene, Troopers contacted Lloyd C. Ives, 32 yoa of Big Lake. Ives was found to have a no bail arrest warrant out of Palmer. Ives was arrested on the warrant and remanded to MSPT with bail set at 3 days to serve.

Search and Rescue-Willow

Police BlotterUpdate: On 10/30/2017 at approximately 9:10 a.m., Alaska State Troopers were able to contact 67 year old Shang O. Yi of Anchorage, on his mobile phone. Yi reported to AST that he had found a camp and was safe. Troopers, Park Rangers and members of Mat-SAR were able to pinpoint his location and after multiple attempts, reach his location by foot. At approximately 2:45 p.m., rescue personnel were able to safely escort Yi back to his vehicle at the Red Shirt Lake Trail head. Yi was able to leave on his own accord without any reported injuries.

On 10/29/2017, approximately 8:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers and members of the Mat-SAR rescue group responded to a reported overdue hiker near the Nancy Lake Recreational Park in Willow. Investigation revealed one 67 year of age male from Anchorage had gone hiking earlier in the day and then gotten lost after sunset. At approximately 5:00 a.m. on 10/30 ground search efforts were suspended and expected to resume again after sunrise on 10/30.

Wasilla man arrested in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 10/25/2017 at approximately 11:42 p.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop at the Big Lake Tesoro on a Saturn sedan for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed a passenger, Jeremy Anderson, age 37 of Wasilla, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on the original charge of Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Third degree. Anderson was arrested and transported to Matsu Pretrial where he was remanded on his $2,500 warrant plus court approved third party custodian.

Driver eludes Troopers in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn October 28, 2017 at about 2:00 p.m., Alaska State Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue 2000 Honda Civic without a windshield on Big Lake Road. The male driver failed to stop for AST and eluded at a high rate of speed, later fleeing on foot. A possible suspect has been identified. Investigation continues.

Troopers seek information in Big Lake burglary/trespass

Police BlotterOn October 28, 2017 at about Noon, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a burglary at a residence off of Kenaka Bena Loop in Big Lake. Investigation revealed an unknown person forcefully entered a residence and rummaged through the entire residence, damaging some appliances while doing so.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 352-5401.

Big Lake woman arrested

Police BlotterOn 10/28/17 at approximately 12:43 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on Sunrise Dr in Big Lake for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed Nancy Scott, age 58, of Big Lake damaged the residence. She was arrested, transported and remanded to MSPT where her bail was set at no bail.

Wasilla man charged with shooting family member in Houston

Police BlotterOn 10/25/17, at approximately 1:05 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report of a shooting at an address on Round Table Dr. in Houston. Investigation determined Cody Glenn, age 20, of Wasilla, shot a family member in the abdomen.

The victim was transported via LifeMed to the hospital for life threatening injuries. Cody Glenn was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was held without bail.

Big Lake man cited

Police BlotterOn 10/24/17, at 1:05 a.m., AST stopped a 2003 Honda Accord for an equipment violation at Mile 51 of the Parks Highway. The driver was identified as Orville D. Newhall, 57 yoa of Big Lake. Newhall was operating the vehicle with a revoked license. Newhall was issued a citation for DWLR and released with a future court date. The vehicle was released to a licensed passenger.
