Houston man involved in crash

Police BlotterOn 01/25/17, at approximately 11:16 am, Alaska State Troopers responded to mile 184.1 Glenn Hwy to investigate the report of a two vehicle collision with no injuries.

Investigation revealed a Toyota Tacoma driven by Heung Kim (age 62 of Anchorage) rear ended a Fishers Fuel Tanker Truck driven by Randy Hunter (age 55 of Houston) when the truck slowed to make a left hand turn. There were no injuries reported and no fuel was spilled. Kim was issued a citation for failure to exercise due care.

Wasilla man arrested in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 01/26/17 at approximately 12:35 am, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer near the intersection of the Parks Hwy and Big Lake Rd for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the driver, Dylan Jordan age 20 of Wasilla, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Failure to Comply with Conditions of Probation on the original charge of Theft 2.

Jordan was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility where he was remanded into custody with bail set at $200 plus 5 days to serve.

Troopers arrest 3 in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 1-25-17 at about 4:04 am, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a report from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, Troopers contacted the vehicle, a 2004 Ford Escape.

Investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen to APD on 1-23-17. Three occupants were identified as 27 year old Anchorage resident Yasen Taha, 24 year old Big Lake resident Danny Luafulu, and 19 year old Anchorage resident Joseph Hodson.

All three were arrested and remanded to MSPT. Taha was charged with False Information and Probation Violation and Joseph Hodson was charged with Hindering Prosecution and Probation Violation, both were held without bail.

Luafulu was remanded on 4 outstanding felony warrants for failure to comply with conditions of release on the following charges: Criminal Trespass 1st, Assault 3rd, Vehicle Theft x4, False Info x2, Assault 4th, Arson 3rd, Theft 2nd, Theft 4th, and DUI. He was held on $10,000 bail plus CATP.

The investigation into the stolen vehicle is continuing.

Big Lake Homeowner Interrupts Burglary

Police BlotterOn 01/17/2017, at approximately 12:20 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of an active Burglary at an address on Little Meadow Creek Drive, in Big Lake. The suspect fled the area prior to AST arrival.

Investigation revealed a man had entered the residence and attempted to steal items. The homeowner arrived home and interrupted the crime. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was located approximately thirty minutes later by Troopers during a traffic stop.

The suspect was identified as Jace E. Fesler, age 33, of Wasilla. Fesler was arrested on the charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Theft in the Fourth Degree, and Criminal Trespass in the First Degree. He was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded on a $5,000 bail with a Third Party Custodian Requirement.

Wasilla man charged in Houston case

Police BlotterOn 12/23/2016 Alaska State Troopers contacted Jason Michael Jensen, age 28 of Wasilla, during an investigation in Houston. During the course of the investigation, it was determined Jensen committed Criminal Trespass 2 and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 5. He was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-trial and remanded with O/R bail.

Houston residents charged after traffic stop

Police BlotterOn 01/08/2017 Alaska State Troopers contacted Brent Nichols, age 37 of Houston, and Mary Nichols, age 34 of Houston during a traffic stop in Houston. During the course of the investigation, it was determined Brent was operating his motor vehicle while his license was revoked and Mary was wanted for failure to appear for arraignment for prior charges. Brent was issued a misdemeanor citation to appear in court for a later date. Mary was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-trial where she was held without bail.

Fatal crash closes KGB

*UPDATE*

Next of kin notification has been made. The driver of the turning 1998 Saturn SL is identified as Laurie Carroll-Bakk (age 36 of Wasilla). The passenger is identified as Brooke Gilpin (age 26 of Douglas). Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors. Investigation is continuing.

On 1/6/2017 at approximately 2:57 pm, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles at the intersection of Knik Goose Bay (KGB) Road and Compass Drive in Wasilla.

Investigation revealed two vehicles were traveling on KGB away from Wasilla. The front vehicle was attempting to turn left onto Compass Dr. The vehicle behind the turning vehicle collided with the rear of the turning vehicle, pushing it into the opposite lane and into on-coming traffic. A Dodge 5500 box truck was traveling on KGB towards Wasilla and collided with the side of the sedan. Both the driver and passenger from the turning sedan died at the scene. Next of kin has not been notified yet.

The SME has responded and taken the bodies to the SME office in Anchorage. No charges or citations have been issued at this time. Investigation is continuing.

KGB remains closed near the incident scene, but will open this evening when on scene investigation is complete.

Big Lake woman arrested for DUI

Police BlotterOn 1/3/16, at approximately 7:22 pm, Alaska Wildlife Troopers stopped on a vehicle in the ditch on the Parks Highway near Stanley, within the designated Highway Safety Corridor.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle had recently been called in as a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) prior to going into the ditch. The female driver, identified as Julie A. Shedlock, 45 yoa of Big Lake, was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Shedlock was arrested for DUI and later transported to mat-su pretrial where she was set to be release OR.

Teen injured in Big Lake crash

Police BlotterOn 1/3/2017 at approximately 7:55 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to a single vehicle MVC on W Hughes Homestead Road in Big Lake.

Investigation revealed 17 year old Joshua T Seidl of Wasilla, was driving eastbound in a gold 1996 GMC pick up truck when he lost control and skidded off the road, colliding with roadside trees. Seidl suffered non-life threatening injuries and the vehicle sustained approximately $4000 in damage.

Seidl was issued a citation for driving too fast for conditions and released at the scene.

Houston woman arrested for DUI

Police BlotterOn 12/30/2016 at approximately 9:40 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to reports of a vehicle in the ditch on White Rabbit Dr near Cheri Lakes Dr, Houston.

Investigation revealed the driver, Jolene McLean, age 49 of Houston, was operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol. Further investigation revealed this was McLean’s second DUI in the past 10 years.

McLean was arrested and transported to MATSU pretrial where she booked on charges of DUI and held on $1,000 cash plus $500 cash corporate bail.

Houston man found deceased in his residence

Police BlotterOn 12/26/2016 at approximately 12:13 pm, William Lewis Attwood notified the Alaska State Troopers he had found his father William Francis Attwood, 92 of Houston, deceased in his residence. Investigation revealed that Attwood died due to natural causes. The State Medical Examiner’s Office released Attwood to a local Funeral Home. Foul play is not suspected.

Willow man charged in Christmas Day assault

Police BlotterOn 12/25/16 at approximately 3:04 pm Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence off of E. Fairview Loop in Wasilla.

Investigation revealed Daniel Draveling, age 34 of Willow assaulted a household member and damaged private property. He was arrested for Assault 4th DV, Criminal Mischief 5th DV and Interfering with a report of domestic violence. He was remanded at MSPT with no bail.

Big Lake man ticketed for NVOL

Police BlotterOn 12/19/2016 at approximately 12:54 pm, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a blue 1995 Ford F150 for equipment violation on Big Lake Road in Big Lake. Investigation revealed Ricardo Gutierrez, age 21 of Big Lake, was driving without a valid operator’s license. Gutierrez was issued a misdemeanor citation and released with a licensed driver.

Houston woman arrested on warrant

Police BlotterOn 12/18/2016, approximately 11 pm, Alaska State Troopers contacted a green 1995 Buick Regal in a parking lot of a closed business near mile 50 Parks Highway near Wasilla.

Investigation revealed one occupant of the vehicle, 25 year old Megan N Unger of Houston, had one outstanding arrest warrant in the amount of $1000 for FTA Arraignment on the original charge of DWLS. Unger was arrested at the scene without incident and remanded to MSPT, held on the $1000 bail.

Anchorage woman arrested in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 12/15/2016 at approximately 10:19 pm Alaska State Troopers received reports of a vehicle in the ditch on Hollywood Road near Big Lake Road in Big Lake. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jacqueline Roehl, age 41, of Anchorage.

Investigation found Roehl was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Roehl was arrested for DUI and additionally charged with Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. Roehl was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where she was remanded on charges of DUI and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test to be released on her own recognizance.
