Troopers seek information in Big Lake burglary/theft

Police BlotterOn 08/27/2017, at approximately 2:41 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a burglary at a cabin on Crooked Lake, in Big Lake. Investigation revealed someone had broken into a shed and stole multiple items. The estimated loss to the property $1,500. The case is currently under investigation.

2 face charges in Big Lake assault

Police BlotterOn 8/29/2017 at approximately at approximately 9:47 am, AST responded to report of a fight between two females in the roadway on Birch Rd in Big Lake. It was reported the suspect had left the area in a silver Impala. AST arrived on scene and contacted the victim in her vehicle.

Investigation revealed the victim was attempting to take photos of the suspicious vehicle driving around in her neighborhood. The victim confronted the occupants of the vehicle. The female passenger exited her vehicle and attacked the victim through her driver side window.

The female suspect was later identified as Sabrina Luafulu, 19 of Big Lake. The victim sustained minor injuries to her face and top of her head. During the investigation, in an attempt to identify the suspect Sabrina, her sister Lila Luafulu, 22 of Big Lake, was contacted. It was later determined that Lila knew about the incident was withholding information when questioned by AST.

Charges of assault 4th degree will be forwarded to the DA on Sabrina and charges of hindering prosecution will be forwarded to the DA on Lila.

Troopers seek information in Big Lake burglary/theft

Police BlotterOn 8/28/2017 at approximately 7:06 am, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a theft from a cabin located near Big Lake. Investigation revealed, sometime within the last month, someone kicked in the door of the cabin as well as forcefully entered the shed and stole two Suzuki generators and 2 Homelite chainsaws. There were additionally miscellaneous items stolen from within the cabin. The approximate value of stolen items is approximately $5,000.00.

Sexual assault-Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 8/18/17, Blake Jepson, age 29 of St. Helens, Oregon was extradited from the state of Oregon back to Alaska. A Palmer Grand Jury handed down a "True Bill" for Jepson for Sexual Assault 1st Degree at which time the Palmer District Attorney's Office secured the extradition necessary for Jepson, after he fled Alaska back to Oregon during the investigation by the Palmer AST General Investigation Unit (GIU). Jepson was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $50,000.00 bail.

Police BlotterOn 8/21/17 at approximately 5:47 pm, AST received a report of a burglary and theft at a residence off of Old Burma Road in Big Lake. Investigation revealed that someone broke into an unoccupied cabin and stole multiple household goods with an approximate value of $1,500.00. Troopers seek information in Houston theft

Police BlotterOn 8/22/17 at approximately 8:40 am, AST responded to a report of a theft at a residence off of King Arthur Road in Houston. Investigation revealed that someone stole framing materials for a residence under construction with an approximate value of $5,000.00. Anyone with information is asked to call the Alaska State Troopers at 373-8300.

Wasilla man arrested in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 08/13/17 at approximately 7:54 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance on Alta Drive near Big Lake.

Investigation led to the arrest of Chris Mazza, age 55 of Wasilla, for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and for misconduct involving a weapon in the 4th degree after Troopers contacted him soon after driving. Mazza displayed impairment from an alcoholic beverage and was carrying a concealed handgun on his person.

Mazza was remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and released on his own recognizance.

Wasilla man arrested in Houston

Police BlotterOn 08/13/2017, at approximately 8:52 am, Alaska State Troopers responded to the area of Delroy Road, in Houston, for a report of suspicious activity. During the check Troopers contacted Vencent M. Nelson, age 39, of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Nelson had an outstanding AST warrant for Failure to Comply with Conditions of Probation on the charge of Assault in the Fourth Degree. Nelson was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded on a $500 bail.

Theft from Big Lake campsite

Police BlotterOn 08/13/2017, at approximately 10:40 am Alaska State Troopers received a report of a theft at a Big Lake campsite, where the complainant reported 2 Honda 2100 Generators taken from his campsite. The value of the generators stolen was estimated to be $2,000. Anyone with information regarding this theft, or the various other thefts recently reported in the Mat-Su area, is encouraged to call the Alaska State Troopers at 373-8300.

Willow man arrested in Big Lake, charged with DUI, refusal

Police BlotterOn 8/11/17 at approximately 12:46 am, Alaska State Troopers responded to a vehicle stopped in the roadway on S Johnsons Rd near the Parks Hwy. Troopers located the vehicle, a silver Chrysler 300 and contacted the driver, Merlyn Shandley age 22 of Willow, passed out behind the wheel.

Investigation revealed Shandley was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Shandley was arrested for DUI Alcohol and later refused to submit to chemical testing. Shandley was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded into custody to be released on his own recognizance once sober.

Warrant Arrest, Houston

Police BlotterOn 08/07/17 at approximately 10:16 pm, Alaska State Troopers were in the vicinity of Wasey Way and Cattail Circle in Houston for a follow up investigation. Troopers contacted Michael Cooksey, age 40 from Kodiak.

Investigation revealed Cooksey had an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Assault 3. Cooksey was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility where he was remanded and held on $5,000.00 bail plus court approved third party.

Vehicle Theft, Eluding, Warrant Arrest-Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 8/2/17 at 11:36 pm, Alaska State Troopers initiated a stop on a black 2009 GMC Sierra for multiple moving violations. The vehicle failed to stop and after reaching speeds of 97 mph the vehicle lost control while making a turn and rolled into the ditch.

The driver was taken into custody after attempting to flee on foot and identified as Cody Akers.

Investigation revealed the truck was reported stolen on 7/29/17 and Akers had an warrant for failure to appear Pretrial hearing original charge MIW3.

Akers was arrested on his warrant, Eluding 1, Theft 2 and Vehicle Theft 1. Akers was remand to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was held without bail.

Big Lake man rolls vehicle, charged with DUI

Police BlotterOn 07/25/2017 at approximately 6:49 pm, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover on Beaver Lake Drive near Rocky Street in Big Lake.

Investigation revealed Zachary Williams, age 29 of Big Lake, was driving his vehicle on Beaver Lake when he lost control and his tan 2000 Chevy SUV rolled into the ditch.

Further, William was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Williams was arrested and remanded to the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and will be released on his own recognizance. Williams reports wearing a seatbelt.

Houston man cited in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 07/18/17 at 7:10 pm, AST performed a traffic stop on a blue Dodge pick-up on Big Lake Road near North Shore Drive in Big Lake for a moving violation. Investigation revealed Buddie Holmgren, age 57 of Houston, was driving while his license was revoked for the original charge of DUI. Holmgren was issued a misdemeanor citation with a mandatory court appearance at a later date.

Big Lake man arrested on warrant

Police BlotterOn 7/18/2017, approximately 12:30 am, Alaska State Troopers contacted a suspicious maroon Saturn 4-door in the area of Schrock Road and Shushana Drive in Wasilla.

Investigation revealed 35 year old Kristopher C. Simpson of Big Lake had one outstanding $100 cash only arrest warrant for fail to appear on the original charge of DWLR. Simpson was arrested at the scene without incident and remanded to MSPT where he was held on the warrant bail.
