Fail to submit 2012 harvest information.

Police BlotterOn 1-18-14, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Palmer Post, cited Christina Hammond age 44 of Big Lake, for failing to submit a hunt report for the 2012 caribou permit she received. Hammond was issued a $110 bailable citation with an optional court appearance in the Palmer District Court.

Vehicle Theft 1st BOLO

Police BlotterOn 1/19/14, at 0111 hours, Troopers responded to the Tesoro Station at the intersection of Parks Hwy and Sylvan Rd for a report of a vehicle that had been stolen. An investigation showed that a restored 1978 Red Chevy Pickup bearing Alaska license FPZ767 had been taken while the owner had been inside the store. The vehicle is believed to be in the Big Lake / Johnsons Road area. Suspects have been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Troopers are requesting assistance from the public in locating this vehicle so it can be returned to the owner. Anyone with information is asked to call the Alaska State Troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Warrant Arrest

Police BlotterOn 01/17/2014 at approximately 4:19 p.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1995 GMC Pickup on Big Lake Road near Hollywood Road in Big Lake. Investigation revealed Michael Hislop, age 27 of Big Lake, had an arrest warrant for Failure to Appear to Arraignment for the original charge of DWLR. Hislop was arrested and remanded to the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on $500 bail.

Police BlotterOn 1/16/14 at approximately 1:28 a.m., Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer on Big Lake Road near Parks Highway for several equipment violations. Investigation revealed the driver Jayson Featherstone, age 21 of Big Lake, had an outstanding warrant arrest for Failure to remand for a probation violation. Featherstone was subsequently arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with 5 days to serve.

Big Lake Teen Injured in Serious Crash

Police BlotterOn 1/15/2013 at 10:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers received a report of a collision between two vehicles at Milepost 45 of the Parks Highway in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Emma Lark, 17, of Big Lake was driving her 1991 black Dodge Dakota northbound on the Parks Highway when she lost control of the truck, crossed the center line and crashed head on with a southbound 2001 green Ford Focus driven by Lena Hensley, 26, of Anchorage. Both were transported by ambulance to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for serious but non-life threatening injuries. All occupants involved were utilizing their seatbelts and both vehicles were a total loss. The road was closed for approximately an hour and a half.

Dumb Criminal Tricks

Police BlotterOn 1/15/14 at approximately 2 a.m., Soldotna AST received a report of a stolen vehicle in Sterling. Subsequent investigation found a 2007 Toyota pickup was stolen out of a detached garage sometime between 2300 hours on 1/14/14 and 0200 hours on 1/15/14. While conducting the investigation, the stolen truck was observed to drive by. The suspect sped away and drove into the ditch near the intersection of Carter Way and Skilak Lane in Sterling. The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody and identified as Jeremy Whitlow, age 30 of Sterling. Whitlow was also found to be operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Whitlow was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility without bail on charges of Burglary II, Vehicle Theft I, DUI, and probation / parole violations.

Wasilla man in custody after holding troopers at bay with slingshot, pellet gun

Police BlotterWASILLA -- A 42-year-old man fired a slingshot at Alaska State Troopers responding to a report of gunshot victims near Wasilla but eventually came out of his house without incident early Tuesday morning, troopers said.

Troopers responded to a report just after 10 p.m. of multiple gunshots and victims down at an address on North Tanana Drive, off Bogard Road. The caller did not provide identification, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

It was later determined that no one was injured and the only person in the house was Jose A. Pacheco, troopers said. The incident resolved peacefully after several hours of standoff and negotiation, they said.

Man Cited for Feeding Moose

Police Blotter On 1-12-14, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Palmer Post, cited Paul Cocker age 47 of Wasilla, for hand feeding carrots to a moose. Cocker was issued a $310 bailable citation with an optional court appearance in the Palmer District Court.

Police Blotter - Suspended License

Police BlotterOn January 12th, 2014 at approximately 2:09 p.m., the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop a white 2001 Toyota Corolla for moving violations near Beaver Lake Road, Big Lake. Investigation revealed Vicki L. Gearing, age 39 of Big Lake, was driving while her Alaska driver's license was suspended for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility Insurance. Gearing was issued a misdemeanor citation for DWLS and released from the scene. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Police BlotterOn 1/11/2014, at approximately 4:50 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a commercial burglary alarm at IDITACUP, on the corner of Knik Goose Bay Road and Vine Road. An investigation revealed unknown person(s) attempted to make entry into the business by breaking a window which caused over $250 worth of damage. Police BlotterOn 1-8-2014, Matsu West Wildlife Troopers contacted Daniel Marshall 27 yoa of Eagle River. Marshall was sport fishing on/in Big Lake and using bait. Sport fishing using bait is prohibited in Big Lake from November 1 through April 30. Marshall was cited. Bail is set at $110.

Police BlotterOn 01-08-2014 at approximately 1800 hours, Alaska State Troopers with the Criminal Suppression Unit responded to a residence on Hunter St, Big Lake, while investigating a felony theft. While on scene, State Troopers contacted Michael R. Reagan, age 42 of Big Lake. Investigation revealed Reagan had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest for a parole violation on the original charges of Assault III and DUI. Reagan was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded into custody and held without bail.

Investigation revealed Douglas Vanlue, age 33 of Big Lake, was driving while his license was suspended. Vanlue was issued a misdemeanor citation and release with a licensed driver.

Police BlotterOn 1/7/14 at 1807 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped a white
1977 Chevrolet pickup on the Parks Highway near Blondell Drive for having no tail lights. Troopers identified the driver as 88-year-old Big Lake resident John Collins. Investigation revealed Collins was driving while license suspended. Collins was issued a summons for DWLS as well as cited for no proof of insurance and driving a vehicle with expired vehicle registration.

Police BlotterOn 1/7/14 Alaska State Troopers' Criminal Suppression Unit responded to the Big Lake Arctic Cat for the report of a theft of a 2014 Arctic Cat 1000 Mud Pro ATV valued at $14,799. Members of the unit recovered the stolen ATV, which was returned to the dealership. Investigation continues into the incident. Anyone with information should call the Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
