Big Lake man arrested

Police BlotterOn 2/14/2014 at approximately 2:16 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to Cormorant Way in Wasilla for a reported disturbance. Investigation revealed Ricky Blodgett, age 53 of Big Lake, accessed a detached garage without permission and took a chainsaw. Blodgett was also in possession of .53 grams of a schedule IIIA substance and 4.5 pills of a schedule IVA substance. Blodgett was arrested and transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and held on $5000.00 bail.

Troopers arrest Big Lake man

Police BlotterOn 02/13/2014 at approximately 7:20 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a reported disturbance on Jerry Circle in Big Lake. During the investigation Troopers contacted Travis Mcrae, age 23 of Wasilla, who had an arrest warrant for failure to appear for the original charge of driving with a revoked license. Mcrae was arrested and transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and held on $500.00 bail.

Body discovered in woods

Police BlotterOn 2/12/14 at approximately 4:47 p.m., Palmer AST received a report that a body of an adult male was located in the woods in the Meadow Lakes area, off Pittman Road. AST and Palmer ABI responded. The SME responded to transport the body to Anchorage for autopsy and identification. Investigation is ongoing.

Big Trouble in Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 2/11/2014 at approximately 4:19 a.m., Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call from a cell phone in the Big Lake area reporting an assault after the fact. Investigation revealed that at a residence off of S Jib Circle in Big Lake, Brandon Cleveland, age 26 of Bethel, assaulted a family member, causing minor physical injury. Further investigation revealed Dusten Stanford, age 26 of Wasilla, then drove Cleveland, the victim, and Kammi Gilbert, age 24 of Wasilla, from Big Lake to Wasilla in a blue 1997 Ford Expedition while intoxicated and without a valid driver's license. Further investigation revealed Gilbert hindered the apprehension of Stanford during the investigation. All three were arrested without incident at a residence located off of E Beech Way in Wasilla and remanded to MSPT. Gilbert was held on $150 bail for Hindering Prosecution II. Stanford was held on $1000 bail plus a required court appointed third party (CATP). Cleveland was held without bail. The victim was transported by EMS for treatment of minor injuries.

No Valid Operator's License

Police BlotterOn 2/7/2014 at approximately 1150 p.m., AST conducted a traffic stop on a blue Buick Century bearing Alaska license plate CRF377 for an equipment violation on Pittman Road and Scatter's Way in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Dacquri Lyn Lincoln, age 34 of Big Lake, was operating the vehicle with No Valid Operator's License. Lincoln was issued a criminal citation and given a court date. The Buick Century was released from the scene to a family friend.

Moose/Vehicle Collision

Police BlotterOn 2/08/2014 at 7:27 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of vehicle collision with a moose on Hollywood Rd near Johnson Rd in Wasilla. Investigation revealed David Winters, age 48 of Big Lake, was traveling westbound on Hollywood Rd in a 1990 Chevy Suburban, when he struck a moose. Winters vehicle sustained approximately $4000.00 in damage to the front of his vehicle. Winters reported he was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Pedestrian severely injured on KGB Road.

Police BlotterOn 02/07/14, at approximately 5:22 a.m., Alaska State Troopers with Palmer Patrol and South-central Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian near mile post 8.4 Knik-Goose Bay Rd. Investigation revealed Zachary R. Kuleck, 35 of Wasilla, was inbound to Wasilla driving a 2005 Subaru sedan when he observed a 2002 Crown Victoria on the east (inbound) side of the road. It was stopped on the fog line with its hazards operating. Kuleck moved out to pass the vehicle and saw a male in dark clothing standing in the road waving his arms. Kuleck was unable to stop in time and his vehicle struck the male, identified as Scott R. Laney, Jr., 26 of Wasilla. Due to high winds, air transport was unable to respond for Laney. Laney was reportedly transported to Providence Hospital in Anchorage. Laney is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Kuleck was uninjured and reported wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. Laney's next of kin has been notified. Investigation is ongoing.

Willow man arrested in Houston

Police BlotterOn 02/06/14 at 6:16 p.m., Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol South-Central Team, conducted a traffic stop on a truck near Armstrong Rd on the Parks Hwy near Houston for failing to stop upon entering the Highway from a parking lot. Investigation revealed the driver, Jan Price, age 41 of Willow, was driving under the influence of alcohol, illegally possessed oxycodone, possessed a loaded handgun on his person while intoxicated, and failed to immediately notify Troopers that he possessed the firearm. Price was arrested for DUI, MIW 4th Degree, MICS 4th Degree, and MIW 5th Degree. Price was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with bail set at $10,000 + CATP.

Big Lake woman arrested

Police BlotterOn 2/5/2014 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers contacted Liberty Samples-Niesen, age 36 of Big Lake, at the Holiday station, Mile 49 Parks Highway. Investigation revealed Samples-Niesen had an arrest warrant for Failure to appear to ASAP. Samples-Niesen was arrested and transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where she was remanded and held on $1000.00 bail.

Troopers seek information in burglary

Police BlotterOn 2/5/14 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on South Oscar Anderson Road in Big Lake following the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed unknown person(s) entered the residence and stole two black bear rugs and two sets of snow shoes. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Big Lake man charged with Sexual Abuse of a Minor.

Police BlotterOn February 2, 2014 Palmer Police arrested Benjamin L. Hammond, age 71 (Date of Birth 02/27/1943) of Big Lake, for Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 1st degree and for two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 2nd degree. Hammond was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial on no bail. Two of the charges refer to the victim as being under the age of 13. The Case # is 3PA-14-00273CR.

Hammond is a janitor for Willow Elementary. Anyone with information regarding this case or another should contact the Office of Children’s Services or their local police department.

Use of Bait Where Prohibited

Police BlotterOn 02/01/2014 Mat-Su West Wildlife Troopers cited Donald Moma, age 27, of Wasilla for using bait where prohibited. Bail was set at $110.00 in the Palmer District Court. Bait is prohibited in Big Lake during the winter.

Big Lake man arrested

Police BlotterOn 2/4/2014 at approximately 2:45 a.m., AST conducted a traffic stop on a 1994 Red Ford F150 bearing Alaska license plate EUX709 towing a 2000 Ford Windstar Van bearing Alaska license plate DWD269 with a tow strap on the Palmer Wasilla Highway near the Three Bears Store in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Dawson John Sult, age 28 of Big Lake, had a warrant for his arrest for Failure to Remand 12/2/2013 original charge Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. Additionally, the second driver Aleaha Rose Niemann, age 30 of Wasilla, was operating the vehicle with No Valid Operator's License. Sult was arrested and transported to Mat Su Pretrial, where Sult was remanded to serve 20 days. Niemann was issued a criminal citation and given a court date. The Ford F150 was released from the scene. The Ford Windstar van was seized as part of an ongoing investigation.

Houston man arrested for DUI

Police BlotterOn 02-03-14 at 6:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near mile 54 of the Parks Hwy for a stop sign violation on a Chevy truck. Investigation revealed the driver, Neal Bridgwater, age 51 of Houston, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Bridgwater was arrested for DUI and remanded to the Mat-Su-Pre-Trial facility with bail set at $1000.

Houston Man Arrested

Police BlotterOn 02/02/2014, Alaska State Troopers contacted Reinaldo Delsie, age 52, of Wasilla, as a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop near mile 54 of the Parks Highway. Investigation revealed Delsie had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The first was for Failure to Appear at a Change of Plea Hearing on the original charge of Driving While License Revoked. The second was for Failure to Satisfy Judgment on the original charge of Driving While License Revoked. Delsie was transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on a $500 bail.
