Police BlotterOn 1/5/14 at 1923 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation at the intersection of Cherry Lakes and Loon in Houston. Investigation determined the driver, Nicholas Carlson age 16 of Houston did not have a valid drivers' license. Shawn Carlson, age 41 of Houston arrived on scene to take custody of his son. Investigation determined Carlson allowed his son to drive the vehicle knowing that he was not properly licensed to do so. Both Carlsons' were issued criminal citations to appear at a later date in court and both were released on scene.

Police BlotterOn 01/01/2014 at approximately 1458 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1996 Nissan Sentra an equipment violation on the Parks Highway at Big Lake Road. Investigation revealed Shawn Carlson, age 41 of Willow, was driving while his license was revoked. Carlson was issued a misdemeanor citation and released with a licensed driver.

Police BlotterOn 1/5/2014 at 2:50 p.m., Alaska State Troopers stopped a 1995 GMC pickup for an equipment violation on the Parks Highway near Johnson Road. Investigation revealed the driver, 27 year old Big Lake resident Michael Hislop, was driving while license suspended. Hislop was issued a summons for DWLS and his vehicle was released to a responsible party.

Police BlotterOn 1/4/14 at approximately 2:32, Alaska State Troopers responded to a single vehicle collision at mile 52 of the Parks Highway. Investigation revealed the driver, Tiaya Waggoner, age 19 of Big Lake, had an arrest warrant for failure to appear for the original charge of Minor Consuming Alcohol. Waggoner was arrested and transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where she was remanded and held on $50.00 bail.

Police BlotterOn 01/03/14 at 1657 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence in Big Lake for a disturbance. The Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol was requested to respond due to one person showing signs of impairment. Investigation revealed the Jonathon Cole, age 32 of Anchorage was operating his vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Cole was arrested for DUI and transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial facility where he was remanded into custody on $500.00 unsecured bail.

Missing Person

Police BlotterOn 1/2/2014, Troopers received a report of a missing individual. A family member reported that Corey Newell, 33 of Palmer, had last been seen 12/29/2013. Family reported that his snowmachine was located near Cloudy Lake in the Pittman area. If anyone has any information regarding Newell's whereabouts they are encouraged to contact Alaska State Troopers at 352-5401.

Police BlotterOn 1-2-14, Mat-Su West Wildlife Troopers issued a citation to William A. Leonard Jr., age 32, of Anchorage for using a treble hook while fishing on Big Lake where the use of a single hook is required from November 1st through April 30th. Bail was set at $110.00 dollars in the Palmer District Court.

Police BlotterOn 1/2/2014, approximately 0215 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence off of S Serrano Drive in Wasilla for a reported home invasion in progress. Investigation revealed 35 year old Shivonne Gouldman of Wasilla, 21 year old Vincent Ryall of Big Lake, and 23 year old Jay Burgess of Wasilla, gained illegal forced entry into the residence while the homeowners were home. The homeowners were afraid and damages are estimated in excess of $600 although no injuries were sustained nor did anything get successfully stolen. Ryall fled the scene prior to AST arrival however with the assistance of Wasilla Police K-9 Marshal, Ryall was located a distance from the residence and in possession of an amount of a schedule IIA controlled substance. All three subjects were arrested and remanded to MSPT. Gouldman was held on $35,000 bail plus CATP for Burglary I, Criminal Mischief III, and 2 counts of Assault IV. Burgess was held on $25,000 bail for the same crimes as Gouldman while Ryall was held on $25,000 bail for the same crimes as Gouldman and Burgess with an additional charge of MICS IV.

Police BlotterOn 1/1/14 at approximately 2116 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a white 1995 Pontiac Sunfire for failing to stop for a stop sign at Big Lake Road and Hollywood Boulevard. Investigation revealed the driver, Devin Blawat age 31 of Big Lake, had a $1,000.00 arrest warrant for failure to comply with probation and ASAP conditions. Blawat was arrested and transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and held on $1,000.00 bail.

Police BlotterOn 1/1/2014 at 0120 hours, Troopers were flagged down by a motorist at the intersection of White Rabbit and King Arthur in Houston. During contact with the motorist, Troopers discovered the passenger Tucker Blackmore, age 25 of Wasilla, had two outstanding warrants. Blackmore was transported and remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial for failure to appear on original charge: leaving the scene of an accident and driving while license revoked as well as failure to appear on original charge: false information, driving while license revoked, and leaving the scene of an accident. Police BlotterOn 12/31/13 at 0000 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 green Chevrolet pickup truck near Milepost 49 of the Parks Highway for drifting over the center line and fog line of travel. Investigation revealed Richard Lee Walker, age 36 of Big Lake gave a false name of Jerome Walker, is a convicted felon, had a .380 handgun in his possession, failed to declare the handgun upon police presence and he was Driving While License Revoked. Further investigation revealed Walker had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. Walker was arrested, transported to and remanded in MSPT with no bail till arraignments.

Anchorage Man Killed in Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on Big Lake

Police BlotterOn 12/29/13, at 2341 hours, Trooper Dispatch received a report of a vehicle crash on the Big Lake Ice Road with serious injuries. While Troopers responded it was reported that CPR was in progress. When Troopers arrived at the scene EMS was performing CPR on the driver of a side by side snow machine who had been ejected during the crash. The driver was identified as William Hunsuck (54 of Anchorage). An investigation showed that the machine had been traveling on the Big Lake Ice Road at a high rate of speed when it went over a snow berm on the side of the road. The machine went out of control and started to roll/flip. Hunsuck was ejected from the machine during the crash.

Hunsuck was declared deceased by EMS who had conferred with an Emergency Room doctor. Hunsuck’s son-in-law was on scene and notified of Hunsuck’s death. Hunsuck was found to not be wearing a seatbelt even though the snowmachine was equipped with them. Hunsuck was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol has assumed case responsibility and the
investigation is ongoing.

Police BlotterOn 12-30-2013 at approximately 1635 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge pickup truck on King Arthur Road in Houston for a moving violation. Investigation revealed the passenger, identified as 21-year-old Kerstynrenee Lanz of Houston, had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for Failure to Comply with Probation on the original charges of Theft 3rd and Criminal Trespass 2nd. Lanz was arrested and transported to MSPT where she was held on $1000 bail.

Police BlotterOn 12/28/13 at approximately 0020 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence near Dusk Lake Loop in Big Lake for the report of a disturbance. During the investigation, Tyler Rasmussen, age 26 of Big Lake, assaulted several troopers on scene. Rasmussen was subsequently arrested for two counts of Assault in the fourth degree on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest andHarassment in the first degree. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility an d held without bail pending arraignment. The troopers received minor injuries.
