Pedestrian severely injured on KGB Road.

Police BlotterOn 02/07/14, at approximately 5:22 a.m., Alaska State Troopers with Palmer Patrol and South-central Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian near mile post 8.4 Knik-Goose Bay Rd. Investigation revealed Zachary R. Kuleck, 35 of Wasilla, was inbound to Wasilla driving a 2005 Subaru sedan when he observed a 2002 Crown Victoria on the east (inbound) side of the road. It was stopped on the fog line with its hazards operating. Kuleck moved out to pass the vehicle and saw a male in dark clothing standing in the road waving his arms. Kuleck was unable to stop in time and his vehicle struck the male, identified as Scott R. Laney, Jr., 26 of Wasilla. Due to high winds, air transport was unable to respond for Laney. Laney was reportedly transported to Providence Hospital in Anchorage. Laney is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Kuleck was uninjured and reported wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. Laney's next of kin has been notified. Investigation is ongoing.

Willow man arrested in Houston

Police BlotterOn 02/06/14 at 6:16 p.m., Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol South-Central Team, conducted a traffic stop on a truck near Armstrong Rd on the Parks Hwy near Houston for failing to stop upon entering the Highway from a parking lot. Investigation revealed the driver, Jan Price, age 41 of Willow, was driving under the influence of alcohol, illegally possessed oxycodone, possessed a loaded handgun on his person while intoxicated, and failed to immediately notify Troopers that he possessed the firearm. Price was arrested for DUI, MIW 4th Degree, MICS 4th Degree, and MIW 5th Degree. Price was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with bail set at $10,000 + CATP.

Big Lake woman arrested

Police BlotterOn 2/5/2014 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers contacted Liberty Samples-Niesen, age 36 of Big Lake, at the Holiday station, Mile 49 Parks Highway. Investigation revealed Samples-Niesen had an arrest warrant for Failure to appear to ASAP. Samples-Niesen was arrested and transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where she was remanded and held on $1000.00 bail.

Troopers seek information in burglary

Police BlotterOn 2/5/14 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on South Oscar Anderson Road in Big Lake following the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed unknown person(s) entered the residence and stole two black bear rugs and two sets of snow shoes. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Big Lake man charged with Sexual Abuse of a Minor.

Police BlotterOn February 2, 2014 Palmer Police arrested Benjamin L. Hammond, age 71 (Date of Birth 02/27/1943) of Big Lake, for Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 1st degree and for two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 2nd degree. Hammond was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial on no bail. Two of the charges refer to the victim as being under the age of 13. The Case # is 3PA-14-00273CR.

Hammond is a janitor for Willow Elementary. Anyone with information regarding this case or another should contact the Office of Children’s Services or their local police department.

Use of Bait Where Prohibited

Police BlotterOn 02/01/2014 Mat-Su West Wildlife Troopers cited Donald Moma, age 27, of Wasilla for using bait where prohibited. Bail was set at $110.00 in the Palmer District Court. Bait is prohibited in Big Lake during the winter.

Big Lake man arrested

Police BlotterOn 2/4/2014 at approximately 2:45 a.m., AST conducted a traffic stop on a 1994 Red Ford F150 bearing Alaska license plate EUX709 towing a 2000 Ford Windstar Van bearing Alaska license plate DWD269 with a tow strap on the Palmer Wasilla Highway near the Three Bears Store in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Dawson John Sult, age 28 of Big Lake, had a warrant for his arrest for Failure to Remand 12/2/2013 original charge Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. Additionally, the second driver Aleaha Rose Niemann, age 30 of Wasilla, was operating the vehicle with No Valid Operator's License. Sult was arrested and transported to Mat Su Pretrial, where Sult was remanded to serve 20 days. Niemann was issued a criminal citation and given a court date. The Ford F150 was released from the scene. The Ford Windstar van was seized as part of an ongoing investigation.

Houston man arrested for DUI

Police BlotterOn 02-03-14 at 6:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near mile 54 of the Parks Hwy for a stop sign violation on a Chevy truck. Investigation revealed the driver, Neal Bridgwater, age 51 of Houston, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Bridgwater was arrested for DUI and remanded to the Mat-Su-Pre-Trial facility with bail set at $1000.

Houston Man Arrested

Police BlotterOn 02/02/2014, Alaska State Troopers contacted Reinaldo Delsie, age 52, of Wasilla, as a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop near mile 54 of the Parks Highway. Investigation revealed Delsie had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The first was for Failure to Appear at a Change of Plea Hearing on the original charge of Driving While License Revoked. The second was for Failure to Satisfy Judgment on the original charge of Driving While License Revoked. Delsie was transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on a $500 bail.

Driving While License Suspended

Police BlotterOn 2/2/2014 at approximately 1030 a.m., Alaska State Troopers contacted the driver of a disabled Chevrolet pickup near mile 51 Parks Highway, in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Tonya R. Walther, age 41 of Big Lake, was driving on a suspended license. Walther was issued a citation for DWLR and released at the scene. The Chevrolet pickup was towed from the scene.

Big Lake Teen Arrested

Police BlotterOn 2/1/2014 at 7:30 p.m., Troopers stopped a blue 2001 Suzuki Swift at the intersection of King Arthur Drive and White Rabbit Drive in Houston for failing stop at a stop sign. Investigation revealed the driver, 19 year old Big Lake resident Taylor Cork had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for original charge of minor consuming alcohol. Cork was arrested and transported without incident to Mat-Su Pretrial facility. Bail was set at $100 cash.

Police BlotterOn 01/22/14 at 1135 a.m., Yon Kim (age 63 of Anchorage, AK) called the Alaska State Troopers to report that sometime between 11/08/13 - 01/22/14, an unknown person(s) damaged a door to his empty commercial building located at 43695 Seward Highway. The damage was estimated to be less than $50. Kim repaired the minor damage and secured the door. There was nothing missing and no other damage. The investigation is continuing.

Hopefully these arch criminals will soon be brought to justice. Wanted for questioning:

An "attempted" Bad Start to a Holiday Weekend

Police BlotterOn 1/30/2014 at approximately 19 minutes after midnight, Alaska State Troopers responded to a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report near mile 3 KGB Road in Wasilla. The suspected vehicle was located a short time later near mile 4 KGB Road in Wasilla, within the Highway Safety Corridor. Investigation revealed 38 year old Derrick D. Peterson of Palmer was operating his 2001 Arctic Cat side-by-side ATV while intoxicated and while his driver's license is revoked. While being arrested, Peterson physically resisted his arrest by force while attempting to pull a handgun on the arresting Trooper. Peterson also attempted to identify himself by using a false name and DOB. Further investigation revealed Peterson is already a convicted felon and he subsequently refused to provide a breath sample after being arrested for DUI. Peterson was remanded to MSPT where he was held without bail and with a required court appointed third party.

Houston incident leads Troopers on a chase

Police BlotterOn 1/27/2014 at 4:14 p.m., Troopers attempted to stop a 1997 Pontiac coupe travelling southbound on Gunflint Trail for not having a front license plate. When Troopers turned around the vehicle sped away and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Gunflint Trail and Skyview Drive. Troopers pursued the vehicle which failed to stop when Troopers attempted to stop it. The Pontiac continued to the dead end on Skyview Drive and before coming to a stop, the passenger jumped out of the window and fled on foot into the woods. The Pontiac stopped at the dead end and the driver, later identified as 44 year old Wasilla resident Marc McDonald, exited the vehicle and ran into the woods. Troopers immediately pursed both suspects on foot and caught McDonald. Troopers were unsuccessful in locating the passenger who was later identified through investigation. Further investigation revealed McDonald was driving while license revoked. McDonald was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial facility where was remanded for Failing to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer and Driving While License Revoked. In addition to multiple citations, McDonald was also issued a summons for Improper Use of Plates. Bail was set at $2,000 c/c. The report doesn't list the name of the other suspect.

Troopers arrest Big Lake woman

Police BlotterOn 01-25-13, at 9:57 p.m., Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to the gas station located at Mile 49 of the Parks Hwy for a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately). Troopers contacted the passenger who was identified as Mary Walluk, age 34, of Big Lake. An investigation revealed Walluk had an active warrant for her arrest for failing to comply with probation. Walluk was arrested, transported and remanded into the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where she was held on $1,500 bail.
