Flags Lowered for Brussels Victims

World NewsMarch 22, 2016 JUNEAU – Governor Bill Walker today ordered all Alaska state flags to be lowered in honor of the victims of the attacks in Brussels, Belgium. This action follows a proclamation by President Barack Obama to lower all United States flags.

“There are no words to express how devastating the events in Brussels are today,” said Governor Walker. “Our hearts go out to all the people of Belgium. Alaska stands with you in solidarity at this dark time.”

Per the President’s proclamation and Governor Walker’s order, all United States and Alaska flags should be flown at half-staff beginning immediately and remain lowered until sunset on March 26th, 2016.

Iowa man arrested after fight over peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

World News(Submitted by a reader) "DES MOINES, IOWA – Police say an Iowa man was arrested after he pulled a knife on his brother during a fight over peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

The Des Moines Register reports that Jerome Davis was arrested on Friday after the confrontation with his brother in their Des Moines home. Both men are in their 50s.

Davis' accuser told police he was angry because he believed his brother was eating too many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Davis allegedly made three sandwiches and ate them in their living room, and made another less than an hour later.

A police report says the brothers began to argue about laziness and overeating. Davis allegedly pulled out a folding knife and held it his brother's face."

Nude neighbor comes to 69-year-old Canadian man's aid during polar bear attack

World News"(UPI) -- A 69-year-old man attempted to help a woman who was being attacked by a polar bear near his home Thursday, and suffered serious lacerations when the bear turned on him.
But it would have been worse if neighbors hadn't rushed to his aid -- so quickly that one of them didn't have time to get dressed.

Bill Ayotte used a shovel fend off the bear long enough for the woman to escape. When the bear turned on him, his nude neighbor came to his defense."

Wal-Mart recalls donkey product in China after fox meat scandal

World News“(Reuters) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world’s largest retailer, has recalled donkey meat sold at some outlets in China after tests showed the product contained the DNA of other animals, the U.S. company said.

Wal-Mart will reimburse customers who bought the tainted “Five Spice” donkey meat and is helping local food and industry agencies in eastern Shandong province investigate its Chinese supplier, it said late on Wednesday in official posts on China’s Twitter-like Weibo. The Shandong Food and Drug Administration earlier said the product contained fox meat.”
