Ones of you may recall a small computer/tech shop in the Eastlake Mall, late 1990's. There was a need for services such as the 2 public computers, fax that was used for home health workers, folks sending resumes, copier, computer repair, etc. Visitors to Big Lake stopped in to check email and stuff. Kids played games and safely surfed the web in Linux, always asking "What version of Windows is this?" I had set them up just as Windows looks, and it's the same for Linux Mint. Windows users try it and say, "Everything is just like on my computer!" Had the Greatest Honor to scan the photos and other items and participate in the book "Big Lake: The Beginnings." And met the Pioneers! How wonderful to sit a spell, use my 2 ears and one mouth and hear the stories, get my copy signed by everyone.
Around this time, I'd been fortunate to help out the Big Lake Library, and my first time walking in still brings a smile to my face. That unmistakable fragrance of books. I'd been giving computer courses in Intro to Windows, Intro to Linux, and Intro to Computer Security. The letter states they were 120 miles each way or something, for Elementary to Adult Night and the MSB folks. Also helped out the NSA on the SELinux Project then. Created a series of "GIS on Disk", Geographic Information System, for the mining industry.
But that was the Pleasurably Cool Season here in the MSB Tropical Belt, from early May til a few times, Way Too Late, in the Mountains, searching for and developing mineral deposits.
In the interest of brevity, my name is Dennis R. Garrett, and I shall be posting some tech articles. I invite and welcome comments, questions, and my goal is to help my Neighbors in the development of a skill that is of interest, be it frustrations with tech, or a "How can I do that?" And, anyone can learn coding.
